چکیده

A subproblem finite element method is developed for evaluating the eddy losses due to high current leads in transformers. The structural component of the transformer is modeled with classical volumetric elements or more efficiently with a thin shell model (surface impedance technique). Tools are then developed to correct the inaccuracies near edges and corners inherent to thin shell models for magnetodynamic problems. Improvements of local fields make possible accurate calculations of eddy losses and of temperature rise.

Harmonic Modeling of Inrush Current in Core Type Power Transformers Using Hartley Transform

This paper presents a new method for evaluation and simulation of inrush current in various transformers using operational matrices and Hartley transform. Unlike most of the previous works, time and frequency domain calculations are conducted simultaneously. Mathematical equations are first represented to compute the inrush current based on reiteration and then Hartley transform is used to stud...

Prediction of Core Losses of Three-Phase Distribution Transformer

Transformers are normally designed and built for use at rated frequency and sinusoidal load current. A non-linear load on a transformer leads to harmonic power losses which cause increased operational costs and additional heating in transformer parts. It leads to higher losses, early fatigue of insulation, premature failure and reduction of the useful life of the transformer. To prevent these p...

Modelling of Eddy-current Losses in a Surface-mounted Ndfeb Permanent-magnet Generator

In a surface-mounted sintered NdFeB permanent-magnet generator, the magnets are usually thin (typically 4 mm), and hence the armature reaction, due to the time harmonics in the stator currents, is high. NdFeB magnets are conducting (resistivity typically 1.6 μΩm) and experience eddy-current losses. Therefore, the combined eddy-current losses in the NdFeB magnets and a solid iron rotor may becom...

QUALITY CONTROL OF PRECIPITATION HARDENED ALUMINIUM ALLOY PARTS VIA EDDY-CURRENT NONDESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION

Precipitation hardening is the most common method in the strengthening of aluminium alloys. This method relies on the decrease of solid solubility with temperature reduction to produce fine precipitations which impede the movement of dislocations. The quality control of aluminium alloy specimens is an important concern of engineers. Among different methods, non-destructive techniques are the...

Hottest Spot and Life Evaluation of Power Transformer Design Using Finite Element Method

Power transformers represent the largest portion of capital investment in transmission and distribution substations. In addition, power transformer outages have a considerable economic impact on the operation of an electrical network. One of the most important parameters’ governing a transformer’s life expectancy is the hot-spot temperature value. Due to under estimation of stray losses in powe...
